Hello and welcome to our first check-in for this rather exciting passion project, isn't this year already flying by!? Eurovision is in full swing as I type this and more importantly so is the (so far) incredible Season 2 of Doctor Who. I, like many fans, am thoroughly enjoying this massive step up from Season 1 last year, though lets hope they stick the landing with all the mysteries set up so far, a pressure I've come to learn when working on my own stories.
Talking of which, I suppose I should take this opportunity to give you an update on the the progress of Doctor Who Redux. So incase you haven't read the FAQ (how dare you), each Series is going to comprise of 8 episodes (Hurrah!) and there will be a total of 3 Series (Triple Hurrah!), with work well underway on all 3 already! Yes, we're working in a wibbly wobbly timey wimey fashion.
Who am I?
Though firstly, three paragraphs in, I should really introduce myself! My name is Craig Black, a lifelong Doctor Who fan, a degree in Film & TV (Scriptwriting) and a head teeming with ideas. Having no idea how to get into a career of writing I decided to start this project with the help of several wonderful people - after all my dream job would be to show run Doctor Who, So my head just went "what the hell, just do it"... sort of. So I've now assumed the role of "Showrunner" for the project, being the one behind the major plotlines, series arcs, characters and to be quite frank the boss (no not that mysterious one, though I'd love a pet Meep... or a pet Rogue for that matter...Ahem).
Thus far this project has been incredibly challenging but in all the exciting ways that get me screaming Allon-sy, Geronimo and Fantastic in my sleep! How's it all getting on though? Well. I would say it's going pretty good, but it's my first time at doing anything like this, so it could be going terribly and I just don't have a clue. Even this website is a whole new thing to me - is this even working? Are people even reading this?!
Series 1 update
Series 1's story arc is well cemented in place and I'm currently working on piecing everything together, there is likely to be 4 writers in total for the first Series, of which I'm heading up 5 (God help me). Those are episodes 1, 2, 6, 7 and 8. Two of which are all but completed - with the other 3 all very much complete stories in my head awaiting a magical night or two where my brain communicates successfully to my fingers to type them out.
Episode 3 is being written by a good friend of mine called Jack Reeve, Jack is a life-long fan of the show, he was the first to join me in this project, in fact at this point he is writing at least TWO of the scripts across the 3 series(he's writing more, he just doesn't know it yet), he's also one of my best buds when it comes to idea bouncing - that boy already knows how everything ends, and we've not even started yet. I asked him today how he was getting on with his episode for Series 1, his response was "It is... coming", now is that some cryptic clue? or a worrying update?
Episode 4 is probably the one needing the most work, the premise is in place and there's some beautiful moments to be had in this one - but alas - No writer has been assigned the episode yet. But, there's plenty of time and I should be receiving an idea pitch soon from a yet to be named writer.
Episode 5 is being written by the wonderful Lauren Files-Butler, We spent an evening at the pub recently and she talked me through her episode and lets just say I think her episode is going to be breaking a few hearts. Lauren is also a huge fan of the show and often you'll find myself, Jack and Lauren discussing each episode from the official series and all disagreeing with each others opinion - beautifully Whovian-esque.
Wrap-up
So there we have it, your first update on Doctor Who Redux. I can't begin to explain how exciting it is to be a part of such an incredible project, nor explain how proud I am of the work being put into it by my fellow project members. Jack and Lauren are just two of the many talented minds working on this project, and I can't wait to introduce you to even more talented people as the project progresses!
Our next update will hopefully be in the next week or two. Until then, "Tutty-bye".
